How should I approach or apply for ECE related jobs?

• I am an ECE student moving to my 4th year and as all other students I want to have a decent job in some core ECE company. My gpa is 8.5

  There aren't numerous core ECE companies in india in private sector. I'll confine my answer to public sector opportunities for an ECE graduate. #1 Prepare well for GATE. This is the biggest opportunity to land on public sector companies. Nevertheless the competition in ECE stream is highest among all branches. As per 2014 exam stats, total students appeared for GATE from ECE branch were around 216000 (highest among all branches) One more thing that makes ECE the most competetive branch is very less number of vacancies offered by PSUs for this branch. Typically, if you want to get a PSU through GATE in ECE branch, you have to secure  AIR within 150. You can go through previous years cutoffs of PSUs through GATE to verify this. HPCL, NALCO, NTPC, MDL are some companies which hire candidates through GATE score card. The extent of preference to GATE score varies from company to company, and there is always a personal interview round as final selection process. Some companies conduct group discussion also. But above all, your GATE score plays a major role in you selection. #2 Some PSUs conduct their own recruitement examination. As of now SAIL, BEL, BSNL are some of companies which conduct their seperate evaluation process independent of your GATE score. These are companies which I can recall right now,  there are others too. You can google this. You mentioned that you just moved into 4th year. GATE is normally conducted in the month of february. You have sufficient time to prepare for the exam, provided that your fundamentals are clear ( Devices and circuits, analog, digital, basic electronics stuff). Go for it. All the best!
