It is my perception that a focus on science studies is what medical school, dental school, veterinary school, etc. prefer on applicants. Your adviser did not go far enough into the subject. Yes, there is no "pre-health" degree but there are biology, physics, mathematics and others. A science degree is best. The general purpose statement many medical and dental schools proffer is just that, general.
