it seems there is consensus that Philip Kotler is the father of modern marketing. What leads you to think otherwise?   You could make the argument for Peter Drucker, the most important business thinker of all time, to be the true father of marketing given his foundational thinking on the concept.   Lester Wunderman is the father of direct marketing.   You could also look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_marketing in Wikipedia, but then you could make the argument that the pyramids, for example, where some of the greatest branding & marketing activities in early human history.
