Would we be really able to save the environment? Thinking about rapid population growth and shrinking forests, I fear that that our future generations will live a miserable life and humanity will start to extinct in 50 years. Are you optimistic about our future?

Although many of my friends are optimistic about environment but when I try to collect facts about environment I feel that our future destined to doom. Just look at the facts world population in during 1820 was 1billion, it reached 3 billion mark in 1960s now it has reached 7 billion and will certainly cross 10 billion mark in 50 years. How we would be able to feed so many mouths. The greedy politicians are busy in drilling amazon rainforests for oil, seizing agriculture land and cutting forests for the sake of development, still we say that our future will be better. I have not visited many places but wherever I have gone I have only seen concrete jungles replacing agriculture lands and forests, in my hometown 24 square km of agriculture land has been reduced in last 2 decades. Still we are not focusing to curb population growth. India alone is adding 15 million people every year. Selfish Indians are busy in marrying early and posting photos of their new born baby on FB. Nobody cares about environment. Gandhiji said "The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed" But I think that he was wrong.

Answer:
Whoever you are, I appreciate your concern for the environment, but to blame Indians is totally nonsensical. Yea, its true that the population is increasing exponentially, but India barely contributes to the environmental problems. U.S and china altogether have taken a lead in the game, for they generate the highest amount of non-degradable waste every year and there is a serious need for the world to take co-ordial actions to supress global warming, in whatever possible manner. U.S consumes the highest amount of bio-fuels and other natural resources every year . Its total consumption exceeds in leaps & bounds when compared to all other world countries. (Ratio is 100:1) can you imagine that? Now there are numerous ways, ideas and technologiea that promise a cleaner and safer environment. Singapore, switzerland and Germany are incorporating various ways to curb the e-damage. And they are preserving the nature in its purest form. But as you mentioned the overall increase in the population in the world is going to make things worse. We'll come to a standstill and we'll have no resourses left. Wildlife is already degrading. Theres no practical solution as every human develops a selfish and extravagant attitude, and can go to fanatic ends to cater his needs. So in a way its a wakeup call, that probably no-ones gonna answer and sooner or later we shall witness the "dooms day".
