Which is the most competitive group in the 2014 World Cup soccer tournament?

  • Now after IPL 2014 it is time for the 2014 World Cup. Truly 2014 is turning out to be year of sports. I was checking out the groups and their relative competitiveness to make it to the knock outs. never followed soccer to that detail, but I have fair enough idea about teams that pl;ay strong and good. Group A - Brazil is the obvious topper (but do not get complacent). There will be a tough fight between Mexico who have the homelike crowd advantage v/s 1998 3rd place finishers Croatia. However Cameroon cannot be undermined remembering their wins against Argentina,Romania, and Columbia with a close finish against England in Italia 1990. Group B - Spain and Holland are placed on top (alphabetically) and might remain on top. Chile does well in the Copa America cup but cannot make it beyond that. Australia has just started qualifying for the World Cup tournaments, so it's time for them to get off their underdog tag with some miracles. Group C - I won't call it a Group of Death" because the fight will be for the second spot. Columbia is a well trained Latin American War Horse . Japan has good experience, hope Shinji Kagawa does some Manchester United magic. Ivory Coast is well paced among underdog and has a good chance to be a Super Dog. I hope their players from Manchester City and Liverpool chip in their experience well. Greece needs a 'Eureka, Eureka" idea to get Columbia from top. Group D - England and Italy shall rise to glory on top. Don't forget Uruguay won the very first 1930 Soccer World Cup and after that the best they did was in 1970/2010 when they finished on 4th place. The team has won Copa America/Pan America tournaments. So that makes them competitive and hence England has to watch out. Costa Rica CONCACAF veteran but yet to make a mark on the globe. I hope they fight back and not be sitting ducks for the toppers. Group E - France shall have each team for breakfast. Another group where the fight will be for the second spot. Honduras is regular winner of Copa America and CONCACAF, they are the 'Go Getters" of the group. Switzerland/Ecuador might be the sitting ducks of this Group. Group F - This might be the colorful group of cards of  the 2014 World Cup. Argentina needs a strategy right from game one because Iran and Nigeria are the hungry Hyenas. Bosnia and Herzegovina a break away of the Yugoslav sneaked in the 2014 World Cup. Spain could not defeat them and they drew twice against Belgium. Who know they have a Magic Potion (poster boy Edin Dzeko) from Getafix. Group G - Germany shall face the 1 man army of Cristiano Ronaldo with his comrades Nani, Pepe, and Fabio. Ghana and USA are too young to face such a huge challenge and might have to look forward to their own games for the lonesome victories. Group H - In this group Alegria is bound to finish at the bottom. Belgium,Russia, and Korea will fight for the top 2 spots. Korea has consistently qualified since 1986 and has shown good progress. The Belgians have the potential to reach the knockouts but need some luck after drawing games. Russia is the sleeping Polar Bear who could wake up anytime and crush good teams. - Sameer Pimpalkhute

    Group D has 3 really strong teams... Uruguai, Italy and England It's the death group. Groups B (Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia) and Group G (Germany,Portugal, Ghana, United States) are also "death groups". But D is the strongest one

Group G is the toughest. or to make it a bit dramatic, Group of Death. Germany, Ghana, USA and Portugal. All strong teams. Germany has wealth of talented and Skill midfielders.. USA has a strong well built team by a former German international, Jurgen Klinsman. Ghana are giants of African continent in recent years. Last WC they were a handball and a missed penalty away from a Semi final. Portugal has Ronaldo. And bunch of other players who are pretty good themselves. Next tough group is B (Spain, Holland, Chile and Aussies) It's Holland vs Chile for the 2nd spot. Both have weakness in defense. Chile are slight favorites though with more familiar to the conditions. Contrary to what people think about Group D, England, Uruguay and Italy, its not as tough. England are definitely better than Uruguay, and on par with italy Uruguay are on their way down. Suarez and Cavani apart, they don't have anyone. Midfield and defense are not as strong as the last WC. Italians are known for their defending.  But the Juve core which they have, are not very fast. England, if Roy is brave enough, have pace and talent in Lallana, Sterling, Barkley, Sturridge and Wilshere. If they give it a go, they can win the group.
