What are some computer jobs?

What are some of the 'not so obvious' or non-traditional jobs that use computer science skills?

  • Graduates in computer science normally take up jobs that involve programming on a day-to-day basis. Some enter the industry as a developer/ programmer, while others take up the testing/ QA track. And then there are others who enter the design industry, for instance web designing, that employ their coding skills as well. I consider these as the traditional career option. What are some of the non-traditional career options for graduates in computer science? Assuming they are not planning for PhD or an R&D career in a specific area, and that they enter the industry, what would be examples of jobs that they can take up that do not make them 'simply code the whole day'? I can think of editorial/ proof-reading jobs in book publishing companies, as an example of a job that uses the candidate's knowledge in computer science employed in a very different manner. Another role is that of a "Business Analyst" - sort of as a bridge between the 'domain' skills and 'technical skills' where domain could be say his knowledge on banking, and technical would be say Java, so he can propose/analyse solutions for the banking industry, while not doing the coding himself. Another obvious one is teaching!

Purchase - you just not compare the tenders but also see historic value of items and best times to buy it. Also purchase managers try to get more credit / discount based on amount of purchasing done in an year.
