How would you rate a career at Edgeverve Systems (owned by Infosys)?

Is it good for a fresh college pass out to join? Or how about an internship? Is it worth it? How does it compare to the likes of Amazon, Oracle, etc.? Infosys has an image that it is just an IT company which takes everyone. Is infosys edge the same or is it any different?

Answer:
: I agree with you. I am employed as Member of Product Engineering at . It is completely a different experience of working in a Product Company than in a Service based (Infosys). In a product base, we get to handle multiple tasks included in software engineering, that might not be experienced in a service based environment. In a service base, the scope of a developer is confined to the requirements that s/he receives from the concerned team, but in a product base, we have have an opportunity to showcase our creativity and skills. In my opinion, EV is the one of best place to excel our ability and evolve as a better Software Engineer within us.

Always join a product related company instead of services one. They will change you whenever they want to where ever they need. Its purely based on need at that time and also as per availability of the projects. If you join a product related then it will keep yourself focused in a single product and one language, make yourself a pro in that. In services, you will not get this advantage. Always choose a product related company either for internship or as a career. It will give you a vast insight of how a company is working in a particular product and you will gain end to end knowledge like from development to product release also how a concept or model is converting into a full fledged product. If you work in startups, your growth is entirely different. Its like working in a chocolate factory :) their culture and working style is entirely different from corporates. Finally you end up with how to code live with code. check this out At the core of all, If your management ability meets your passion and includes a technical knowledge with market understanding then it will end up in starting your own concern :) P.S: The above points are purely in my opinion. Each area like whether corporate or product related will have its own pros and cons.

I don't know much about Edgeverve, but i have a different take on services and product engineering. I started my career in a service based company and worked there for 3 years. I tried for a top product company, where regular freshers get a minimum of 10 Lakhs and IIT fresher gets 16 Lakhs. Getting in is was very difficult, had 5 rounds of grilling interview. Finally got through with nearly 400% hike. When I joined the team, things were great for a year I worked on IAAS system. Then, I got used to it. I work on chef scripts, application security etc, which sounds very cool, but it isn't when you actually do it. The "action" which was seen in service companies was missing. Things get monotonous and boring. Technology wise, I am getting stale. Currently, I am in a position were neither a product development company wants me(my algorithm skills are lost), neither can services company afford me(neither do I have any management experience) People who were called "losers" because they couldn't crack interview in companies like mine started moving to US. Some even migrated to product development companies in US solely based on experience. Some are earning 140k+ salary.

Honestly speaking from personal experience, on the outside it may appear like a Product based company since it happens to be working on certain products developed by Infy, but everything inside is totally like a Service based company.Lets start with salary: If someone is offered 6.5 LPA ( as Technology Analyst ) after an experience of 4 years in another big service based MNC, that clearly indicates the kind of salaries they are offering. It totally depends on what you are currently getting as Edgeverve cannot really afford more than 25-30% hike when you switch to it.Another incidence, Feb 2016 , my friend from another company went through the interview process and was selected. The HR asked him about the offer he already had. It was 14 LPA. He demanded 15 LPA which is not even a 10% over the offer. And the next day HR sent an offer letter of 13.5 LPA!! Upon raising concern, the HR said they'll revise it and revert, but they didn't, and so he didn't join ultimately. Till date, the HR hasn't reverted back. And the Employees : Bear in mind that more than 70% of the workforce has migrated from Infy only , after some interviews, and so most of the crowd is really Service based like. Pressurizing to stay late nights, new joinees being given gigantic tasks rather than being trained and micro management is all prevalent. All in all, it's slowly drifting towards being a purely service based company working on supporting and maintaining some products. As you can see from reports as well, the EV contribution to Infy's revenues has slightly dropped rather than rising which defeats the whole purpose of creating a dedicated product development company.PS: I might have been a little too honest about my views, but those are facts and i do not feel one should praise a company blindly if they are an employee. People come here for the real picture and i just presented the facts.

I will go with the current answers, there is not much to add. It is hard to know how your career will grow at Edgeverve since it's a new company. But one thing is for sure - it will be a different experience alltogether from service industry & you will have better opportunities in the future. Giving specific answers to your questions--- 1. Again you can not compare it with other big companies, Edgeverve is new & it needs time. 2. Infosys has an image of an IT company, therefore they started Edgeverve, to move into product based industry.
