India Against Corruption: How much black money Indian police employees make per capita per year?
-
See the many responses of this question- related to Police corruption, inhuman behaviour and black money. You can answer from first hand experience(say your father is a police officer making 20 lacs per year unaccounted money). I want to understand how much money Indian police makes per capita(meaning if there are 1 billion INR black money in form of bribe or undue advantage and there are 1 million police employees then it is 1000 INR per year per police employee-the actual number is much more I just gave this as an example). It does not seem that police employees in India generally live a very good lifestyle - living in premium spaces, eating good food, travelling premium or having their kids studying in premium schools(although probably neverpay for food -they get free food in restaurants - which is another level of corruption/rent seeking mechanism). What they generally do with that illegal money and how they feel themselves when they go to sleep/before they die(I am sure they don't feel in peace). Also is there any solution to this problem - it should be something unconventional - direct fight does not seem to work. Can the opening up of the society and economy to west help(when western culture makes more informed and demanding citizens etc.)?

Answer:
I have no idea how much one would be making, but I have little in-side info and read about 2 police officers of Gujarat. One being suspended IPS officer for other than financial reasons. And another who had been quite honest and workaholic to start with but succumbed to system due to number of transfers and other things. The IPS officer's sons were well known in city for their notorious deeds and lavish life style. Seen their bungalow from out side when I was young school going guy. And thought, if my dad was police too. Anyway, that's not the thought now. I don't have credible info for their source of income. So I don't want to assume it as obvious now. But yes may be. I've visited police station 3 different purposes and may be around 15 times in total. 1 was related to a theft and run from a previous employee. A simplest thing I feel. Entering in police department demands really high amount of hard work and have to face huge competition at any level. Now this field is also know for it's stressful, rough and socially bit stigmatic. So visibly challenging job, and not so rewarding. Where is that WOW factor for such a fantastic responsibility? It's a scarily rough environment. In my career, I never heard anyone wants to enter police. It was a general school. So let's talk on who chose to go for police? If good bunch of people are driven for service, we won't have so much complains. But why should they go there? At least equally compensating jobs are available in market. So why to chose this? Indian police needs good face-lift. BTW: One things I saw as a good gesture from Police in Bangalore.
