How does one become a firefighter?

I'm interested in learning more about this. You don't exactly just apply to be one. How do you get started?

go down to the govt.office either the city, or county of the entity the firefighters work for. you can pick up a job discription sheet for firefighter. it will tell you what the requirements are. the fire dept. doesn't do their own hiring. the entity they work for does the hiring. the personel office will send you a notice of when they are hiring if they aren't right now.

Actually you do just apply. Most depts. are volunteer units. Paid depts you follow the same civil service process as any government job. Every few year they have openings & if you pass the tests & interviews attend a fire training academy.
