Is it safe to buy a second hand PS3?

If I buy a second hand PS3 how can I be sure it has no hidden problems?

  • for example permanent ban from online or overheating after an hour ...? It is a 40gb fat

  • Answer:

The problem is you can never be sure for anything like that on a PS3 (or any used console, at that). Not only that, you're better off buying a new(er) Slim or SuperSlim PS3 instead of a Fat model just because Fat models nowadays are more prone to breaking down.

the fact that it is a 40gb fat should tell you that the problem is not even hidden.

Well, unless the person let's you test run it for a while, there's really no way of knowing these things off the top. If you're going to go used, you're better off buying it from a retailer that provides a guarantee (e.g., Gamestop). A few dollars more, but a much better deal overall. Take a look:
