I don't really care about celebrity twitters, but I do find it awfully creepy how the military is to be outright worshipped now. We treat soldiers as demigods who can do nothing wrong, and the military is always worth every penny we spend on it. It's kind of scary, really.

It isn't really a big deal. It was a bit insensitive, but people compare every indignity or inconvenience to war all the time. It's a very old idiom. I even made a joke once about the comparison to "Love and War".  It's just a very old idiom that, given the last decade, few people are still silly enough to use.

Meh.  I have no clue what she said until I read these answers.  Having read it, I have no clue what the kerfuffle is over her use of hyperbole.  I'm especially annoyed that this individual thinks she's so super-duper important (she clearly does) and that people constantly keep showing her just how important she is.

I think that Gwyneth Paltrow is an opportunist who says provocative things simply to keep her name in the headlines. At this point, unless she’s anti-social and suffers from moderate autism she has to know that her comments are casting her in a poor light. I think that she knows and she simply doesn’t care as it is free publicity. Since for now she can still get work in Hollywood and she still can get people to talk about her despite her limited acting range and her questionable looks, then it appears that making outlandish statements is paying off for her.

And that is what you get for caring about celebrity opinion.  Some where a pretty girl feels bad because people say mean things - yet she will have made more money of this noise than people that went somewhere and did something. There are just not enough towels to absorb my tears for her difficult plight, because it is not as if she could just retire to a life of undreamed (quiet) luxury at this point in her life. Unlike those bad people in the military fighting (and sometimes dying) on the national say-so. Clearly the leadership never considered her personal hardships when they decided to expend blood and treasure. For the sarcasm impaired: What? This is a thing? People think about this? Gwenith thinks her life is hard?

Notice that he didn't do any flag-waving or America the Brave stuff. He was just talking about the life he has in reality vs. the insensitive comment she made. I've got nothing against Paltrow in particular, and how he even saw the comment is weird. But she pissed him off and the man made a point. I've seen much-less-civil comments here on Quora.  I hope she apologizes.

The fact that people are talking about it on Quora means that she has achieved her goal.  As an actress, when people are talking about her - even trolling, she can get more opportunities for roles and demand more money for those roles.

Nothing. I don't tend to pay attention to what celebrities have to say about politics and current events. Paltrow is famous as an actress, and her opinions about non-acting related topics merit no more consideration than anyone else's. In fact, I didn't even bother to read her comments and probably never will.

I'm pretty tired of the media twisting every word of Gwyneth Paltrow and making it a big deal. Paltrow has been a target of the tabloids since the day she got famous as an actress. Not only she's the beautiful daughter of a successful movie producer Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner, but she also had longtime relationships with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck, two men who have had the "Sexiest Men Alive" title, then she got married to Coldplay's Chris Martin. And from her cookbooks to her blog and acting career she got successful in everything she does. Plus, she doesn't keep her opinions to herself, some people always get annoyed when a woman is vocal. All these made her a target and she gets picked on a lot. It wasn't a tweet, Gwyneth Paltrow apparently said in a printed interview, about online bullies: “You come across (online comments) about yourself and about your  friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing. It’s  almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing…  My hope is, as we get out of it, we’ll reach the next level of  conscience.” I don't know what you understand from these words, what I understand is in both cases people are getting treated like they have no feelings. She didn't say it's exactly like a war. There is no bad message or bad intention here. There are people who are getting attacked online. There are also people who commit suicide over getting bullied, online or offline, and carry its emotional baggage for a very long time. Tabloids publish fake news about celebrities without caring how those news will affect their family, emotions, career and reputation. There is no doubt war is one of the hardest things in the world and soldiers go through the difficulties most of us can't handle. Nobody denied that. If people were really so sensitive about a comparison like Paltrow's, then people would also get pissed about TV show names like "Storage WARS," or when someone says, "It's a war!" after a joke, many songs that refer to soldiers although the song isn't about soldiers/wars/country, or quite a few other comments like Paltrow's. This is on the news and people negatively respond to her comments because she's Gwyneth Paltrow and again, she gets picked on a lot, which is disturbing.
