How can I get over a fear of flying quickly?

  • Answer:

At higher altitudes, air pressure is reduced as there is more "space" for the air molocules to cover. Past 17000 feet, airplanes are required to have pressurized cabins as it is not possible to breathe for long higher than that. Oxygen supply is very limited and the air is thin and cold. Inside the plane the air is regulated and pressurized so there will not be any problem breathing. There are backup systems where, in the event that the cabin loses pressure, oxygen masks will fall from the ceiling and you will have oxygen directly pumped into your mask to breathe safey but that rarely happens and should not be a concern. Closterphobia may be an issue as cabins can feel cramped and stuffy but the air is going to be fine to breathe if not better as there is typically added oxygen.

There is no difference in the air in an aeroplane to what you breathe outside one. The plane has to have it's air pressure maintained or you would expire from low air pressure. Sometimes this causes slight hearing difficulties but you can clear your ears by sucking a sweet or holding your nose and blowing into it gently. Trust me it's no prob as millions fly daily.
