Why does storytelling connect two minds or two groups of people? How can storytelling help startups connect with their customers?
-
I have seen whenever someone shares a story with somebody, it helps them connect together. They become good friends or you can say they come closer to each other. I wanted to know how does it happen? And how this storytelling can help startups to connect with their customers if they share their story with people.

Answer:
We are pannarrans (is anyone better at Latin than me the storytelling ape is what I'm going for) Everything about humanity is based on the small stories we make for our selves. We see ourselves as characters in stories, all plans are stories, everything we remember is in the form of stories. Stories stir our emotions and create our wold so in a way when we share a story we share a part of ourselves.

Storytelling drives limbic resonance, the emotional empathy we feel with others when a story touches us in similar ways. It might be, for example, a story about the problem your startup solves. Your challenge is to make that story resonate with at least a few people, to the point where they are likely to talk about it with each other. That's when a community forms that you can nurture and grow. In my experience, if you don't screw it up along the way, around 1/20 of those community members will become your customers.

I will list similar examples before I go on with my philosophy on why it happens: Connecting through story telling is the reason why - Companies like IKEA are sucesful. - We love our children more than other kids. - We love food cooked by us, even if it's bad. - and many more... The simple reason is that we were part of the story that led to the product. Every product/success/failure/event has a story behind it. If I am running a company, I need you to either work for me, work with me or buy my customer.. I need you!! But how can i convince you? If i tell you the story behind my product (let's say fruit jam)... let's take two approaches: 1) Hey, I make fruit jams and I need some one to help me. How about that, are you interested? 2) Hey, I make fruit jams and I nee someone to help me visit farms in Himalayas to taste and select vendors. How about that, are you interested in working and visiting Himalayas with me? See the difference, not only I made you feel part of the process but also gave you more information that may help you make up your mind...

Storytelling helps me to get into the shoe of a customer. It helps me to visualize his problem better and solution that I can offer them. I try to get into this mindset before getting into the meeting. Once you practice over a period of time, you get better. It took me few years before it started to flow easily. So just start.
