What are the pros/cons of becoming a Chartered Accountant vs becoming a Computer Science Engineer?

  • So, I have this friend who keeps on telling me how foolish I am to have done a BTech in CSE and how utterly awesome she is for becoming a CA. I have an utmost respect for all CAs, even my cousin is one, however her attitude seriously irritates me. I just wish to know if her arrogance is justified.

    No, It is not justified. You both have chosen 2 different streams that you felt are the best for you by interest. If you were a B com, or something else similar she could have argued she have a better edge but as of now both of you are in two different industries. Tell em how many accountants today can survive without a computer, and how many computer companies can today survive without a chartered accountant. Simply put you can't compare the merits and demerits of "Dog Food" and "Dog". Both need each other but at the same time has nothing to compare. If you mean in terms of income, opportunities etc, In both cases it is going to depend on both of your skills and not on which field you took.
