How can I prevent Google Apps from automatically charging me every year for a domain I migrated?
-
Here is my friend's case: She registered a domain name using/trough Google Apps (registered in partnership with GoDaddy) After one or two years she migrated/transferred that domain name to another registrar (that registrar doesn't work in partnership with Google Apps). Theoretically, after the migration/transfer, she shouldn't be charged any longer, but she was recently charged the annual renovation fee. Since her account is a free Google Apps account she doesn't have the right to talk directly to a customer representative (a Google Apps customer pin is required). In fact, Google Apps doesn't offer any kind of contact (phone, email...) for free Google Apps account users. There is no way to stop the automatic renovation that I am aware of. What can she do to stop this annual billing from happening again? and maybe even to recover her money for services she never used (domain renovation)? http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=174725&rd=1 http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/apps-fr/VsIwVI-uLKc Closing down the funding source (Google Wallet) is not a good option for her because she uses that for phone calls, therefore she requires her Google Wallet to be operative.

Answer:
The Google Apps Free version was discontinued December 7, 2012. Anyone who was on Google Apps Free was grandfathered in. It seems like because of this transfer (which it sounds like it happened since that time) they no longer view the account as a Free Account. As with all free Google services, there is nobody to call. However, if your friend was charged, then he/she is actually on Google Apps Premier Edition which is $50/user/year. If that is the case, have her: 1. login to the Google Apps Admin Panel (http://admin.google.com) 2. Click on the "Support" tab 3. Look for Google Phone/Email Support and plead your case I work with 20,000 administrators of Google Apps (mostly paid, but some free) and my guess is that you will not have much luck. If the account is just a handful of users and he/she is using it to run a business, consider the miniscule price of $50/user/year. To compare, an Enterprise license of Salesforce is $100 per month! If you want to pay the minimum amount, downgrade to 1 user/year to keep your license. I consider the pricing of Google Apps extremly fair.
