What's the best way to use cinemagraphs/GIFS in online marketing?
-
GIFs are re-entering the mainsteam of internet content. This is mostly because people have realized that they don't need to be low-resolution, low quality and cheesy. The Cinemagraph is an artistic interpretation of a GIF, keeping the majority of the frame frozen and displaying some selected motion. I'm wondering what are some of the best and most creative ways you could leverage this medium in your online marketing efforts?
-
Answer:
Cinemagraphs allow you that little extra "linger" factor that keeps people on your page. This is very useful for direct marketing, or even the occasional blog post. I'm personally happy when I see the very subtle animations that add to the experience of what I am reading. You can think about it as VERY subliminal advertising if you are direct marketing, or the idea of adding that perfect accent piece to your "living area" in the case of a blog post. I'll usually wait to watch the image loop a few times if I notice a cinemagraph. I'll also tend to over analyze other images to see if they too contain motion. A stay on a site can sometimes be extended 5-15% with something so simple. Cinemagraphs are becoming more and more available as well. Some sites (http://freecinemagraphs.blogspot.com) are even offering it to creatives for completely free use. Now the questions is more ... why don't you use one.

I'm the co-founder of http://popkey.co called PopKey. Branded GIFs can be used in messaging on platforms like ours. Millennials especially love using GIFs in messaging. We work with brands like Nike, Starbucks, Redbull, Dr Pepper and more http://www.popkey.co/partners Other ways to use GIFs in online marketing are to create a Tumblr blog that features GIF videos of your product, reaction GIFs and more. GIFs are also great to use in email marketing headers because if optimized they load quickly and can be visually appealing and used like short videos. Great places to distribute and share your GIF content can include Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Giphy, Pinterest and of course http://PopKey.co
