What are the best running socks?

Is it uncool for a man to wear crew socks (that come partway up the calf) when wearing shorts and running shoes, or should he only wear low-cut socks?

    Since this is tagged as fashionable, i will answer to that point because fashion doesnt include comfort, health and well-being into the equation. What is fashionable right now for men is that the socks is low cut for running shoes and shorts ensemble.  Longer one becomes less cool to really horrible.  That's just contemporary fashion :) If you are wearing pants especially slacks and formal, the socks should cover all the skin that would have potentially show while walking ordinarily.  Type of socks to be used differ to occasion and the ensemble.

while running: wear what's comfortable, especially if you're wearing compression socks, otherwise in casual situations, I say who cares, if someone is having a problem with you're socks, that's a weird problem to have. formal wear is kind of a different story though.
