Corporate sales training jobs?

What jobs can I apply for that require firearms, except police?

  • I'm 36, very fit, 5'10, 160 lbs. Have a Masters degree in Business Administration. Speak several languages fluently including Russian.  I have 15 years of experience in variouse fortune 500 companies. Sales, Analytical Jobs, Administrative, Management, etc. I'm looking for advice and ideas on what jobs I can apply that require carry of fire arms. Not interested in being a police officer or join the military but anything else would do. If you kindly provide suggestions please do elaborate on what one with my credentials needs to do to apply. Is there a training / school I have to attend? how much does it cost, etc.

Very few jobs require being armed.  You are probably over-qualified for private armed security jobs (such as a Brinks truck guard or bank guard). You may be able to get a position in a corporate personnel / asset protection job, although many of those require prior military or police experience.  The problem there is that there is probably an abundance of applicants with prior military experience.    Your language skills could give you a benefit over some military applicants, but they will already have training and experience with firearms. What's involved and how much it costs all depends on where you are.  Illinois requires a 40-hour "armed security" course, usually only available through the agency employing you.  At the moment, you can only carry while on-the-clock, since Illinois hasn't issued any concealed carry permits yet.  Other places may require more (or less) training for an armed position. Requirements in Illinois are that you have no felony convictions, no history of mental illness requiring court-ordered hospitalization, and be physically capable of handling / retaining a firearm.

Armed guard of any kind. Private security, TSA agent, armored car driver. It's been a while since I've seen this happen, but police will sometimes recommend that store and restaurant managers who have to take large quantities of cash to the bank on a regular basis carry a gun. Not required, as you specified, but you'd get an expedited approval (if in a may-issue state). You'll need training. The gun range I used to go to made most of their money training and qualifying armed guards and TSA agents. From what I've seen, you start off as unarmed security, get promoted to armed security, and your employer pays for your training. Also from what I've seen, demand for armed security has so outstripped the availability of qualified people that your range qualification may be the most dangerous thing you ever do, since you'll be in a room with up to 5 armed idiots.

First things first: If you are seeking a job where you are required or allowed to carry firearms, it might be a good idea to play down your desire TO carry them. Many places might want to avoid hiring a person who seemed a little too eager to carry weapons.   I would suggest trying to obtain employment with one of the many private military contractors which are around. While many are assuming a lower profile since the debacle that was the Third Gulf War (Operation Enduring Freedom), there is still a need around the world for people who can handle firearms, who are fluent in multiple languages and who are in good physical condition.   The pay is exceptional and the benefits are supposed to be above par, as well. While there is the possibility that it could be dangerous, the fact that you seem to be willing to carry a firearm daily lends itself to the belief that you aren't necessarily looking for a "perfectly safe" line of work.   Although you didn't state that you had any military or law enforcement background, if you test and interview well, the companies may be willing to overlook that fact in favor of hiring an exceptional candidate. All you can do is apply and see what happens.
