How can I make my communication effective as IT professional?

How does this Internet make so fast communication? I mean physically.

  • Now I am in South Korean, and my girlfriend is in the United States. We are using an instant messenger which is developed using Internet network to make conversation during separated. As I found that when I send a sentence she can immediately could see the sentence, even we are separated across the Pacific. How does this Internet network make so fast communication? That's a kid's question?

  • Answer:

Electrons running through a wire are traveling at about 66% the speed of light, or about 200,000 km / second. Radio waves traveling to and from satellites are traveling at the speed of light (300,000 km / second). The distance from Seoul to LA is about 9,500 kilometers. If the data traveled that distance through a directly connected wire, it would take about 1/20th of a second. In fact, it's probably carried part-way by satellite (which is faster), and has some delay passing through servers and switches in the way; so, assuming that the message takes 4x as long to send as it would with a trans-atlantic direct-connection, that still means that the message takes a fraction (1/5) of a second to transmit from Korea to CA.
