Is financial aid for online students available?

What scholarships, grants and financial aid are available to elementary school students?

  • I know it is shooting for the moon but we are interested in a private K-12 school for our twins that asks for $18k in tuition for the year(per student.) They offer a really nice financial aide package of $10k but we don't think we could afford it. Arethere other   options to help fund this opportunity?

This list: http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/age13.phtml. It's highly unlikely any of these will materially help you pay for K-12 education.  Most seem to be for college tuition, or small-value (compared to $16k in costs) savings bonds.  They also seem quite competitive, with often only one to a few award winners nationally.  Private grade-level education opportunities are unfortunately the domain of the rich and privileged, despite recent efforts in scholarships like the one you mention. If public school isn't a good fit, you could look into homeschooling (perhaps paired with cooperative learning organizations; homeschool co-ops).  My parents went this route for me and my brother after ruling out private education; the cost is something like 2-4 hours of your time each day.  This worked well up to high school (where teaching becomes more specialized), at which point we enrolled in the local public school.  It can be tough, though not impossible, to homeschool a child while working (my mom was a stay-at-home, though I had friends who had parents who weren't); the biggest problem is often not finding the time to teach your kids, but finding a place to put them while at work (this is where co-ops help).

Other answers

I would highly recommend not sending you twins to a private elemenry school because public schools social development. This is because they are around/exposed to a lot of people who are different from them, while private school kids tend to fit the same cookie cutter mould. The exception to this, of course, would be if the public school your kids would attend caters to a VERY lower class. Other than that, save your money for private high school.
