How to run “sudo apt-get update” through proxy in commandline?

How do I run proxy applications and softwares in Windows 8 in my college through proxy address provided by the college?

  • I own a Windows laptop (Due to some issues I'm not able to install Ubuntu and No, Virtual Machine isn't working too). My college provides proxy server addresses for students run internet and internet browsing and streaming is smooth as cheese. But when I connect to a server on a multiplayer game (say Counter-Strike) or want to run some softwares, they just wouldn't tunnel through the proxy servers and end up with an 'Error in connection' or 'No Internet Connection Detected' kind of errors. How do I force applications to run through proxy server? I tried Proxify but I seem to be having some problems with it. Please help. (To be specific, I mainly need it to mine Bitcoins on my GPU on GUIMiner, and I've resorted to pool mining on slush's pool. If you just got confused with this thing in brackets, please ignore it)

I'd recommend proxifier http://www.proxifier.com/ . You can get a month trial version for free. Look for crack/keygen later. Also, there are so many VPNs available, you can try anyone you can get your hands on.

Proxifier http://www.proxifier.com/ Its a software to make your PC act like it has direct internet connection and no proxy. So all apps can freely connect to internet without using proxy. Also opens blocked websites and torrents. We can also use "Proxifier + Fiddler" to run Windows 8 Metro Apps, without proxy, successfully . UPDATE 1 (10 Jan 2014):  As requested, here is the complete process: (Credits to another guy in my college) 1. Instruction Manual - Proxifier: 2. Instruction Manual - Win 8 Apps:

Go to command prompt with admin privileges and enter "netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie". Make sure to put correct proxy setting in ie/chrome (not firefox) before doing this. If this doesn't works, then try using NTLM authentication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NT_LAN_Manager).
