I employed the California State Park at Castle Crags. That was in August and it was decidedly cooler than triple digit heat elsewhere. I found it half empty at 2 am on the weekend. Its near Interstate 5. Visit by staff at dawn will attend any unpaid arrivals. I put a tree between myself and the mountainside just in case rolling over while asleep had consequences. Its crag trail is perfect for the climber and unworthy.
