How useful is a certificate in supply chain management?

What should I take into account when choosing Master programme for Supply Chain Management?

  • I am in a difficult situation in choosing between two European master programmes in Supply Chain Management. Both have their benefits but I'd like to hear from professionals what I should take into account when choosing the most suitable programme for my future prospects.   1. WU Vienna University of Economics and Business (MSc Supply Chain Management). - Two-year programme with quite academic approach, located in Austria (German speaking culture). - Financial times ranking 40, also EQUIS accrediated. - Cost 2,000 $ 2. Antwerp Management School (Master of Global Supply Chain Management) - One year programme with more practical and business-oriented approach, located iCn Belgium with very international flavor and the heart of European logistics & trade. - Financial times ranking 41 (one less than Vienna). - AACSB accrediated - Degree isn't Master of Sciences but just Master - is there some notable difference? - Cost 10,000 $ The curriculum looks quite similar in both schools, however Vienna's two-year programme takes it a bit deeper. My career aim is to work in Supply Chain Manament in Benelux countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg) and therefore Antwerp would be natural choise due to better networking possibilities and contact with companies. However I still ask myself if it's better to study Master in Austria, and then search for work in another country or start directly in Antwerp?   I'm also thinking if it's really necessary to have more academic than business-practise oriented Master if my objective is pursuing a top-level SCM job?

  • Answer:

it depends largely on what you wanna focus and where you excel at. Supply chain can be very mathematical (it is basically a matter of modeling and optimization),and it can be something so much at the business level. The former one fits you well if you wanna start as an analyst or engineer, and the latter would be a better choise if you would like to start a career with more connections like you said.
