How to select whiskey gift for dad?

  • (This question might seem out of place, but added it here with good reason) So my dad's 50th birthday is coming up, and I want to get him a good present (he deserves it), and I know he enjoys whiskey and golf (he's not an alcoholic). Therefore I want to get him some good whiskey (within my price range, i.e. <$90; this is converted from South African Rand, so the whiskey price might be inflated). I've been looking at a few shops, and I found three that look quite decent: Glenfiddich 18 year old single malt, Johnnie Walker Platinum and Knappogue Castle 12 year old. How do I know how these compare, if they're decent, etc? I have no to little knowledge of whiskey. Thanks

    Sorry for the late answer. It'd be helpful to know what kinds of whiskey your dad likes (since he's already a whiskey drinker) or what bottles he owns (or even better - finished). This info will give us some direction.
