Internship in computer science?

How can a Non-Computer Science undergraduate get a Computer Science research internship in a renowned college abroad?

  • I am pursuing a branch which doesn't excite me but something that I love to do is code ! I have taught myself web and mobile application programming, have a good command over data structures and graph theory, and an intermediate knowledge of python and C. Recently, I worked on a weekend project on image processing and it really excited me and I want to pursue a research project on the same for my next summers, so that I can convert it into MS in Computer Science. I have a decent GPA (8.02/10) but I don't want to spam professor's inbox and disrepute IIT. Also, I got some offers but they were unpaid. I will apply to all the different programs like Daad, SN Bose, etc. What else should I do ?

  • Answer:

    1. If you are mailing a professor whose profile and publications you have gone through well and are really interested in research work of, it's not spamming. 2. You have to mail professors. Even if you are applying to DAAD, you have to get a professor who is interested in taking you. A lot of professors/institutes provide funding. It's about luck that you get to the right person. 3. Besides university internship, try http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2014. You don't have to go to a university for the internship, but the experience and the pay, both are awesome :D
