Which Inventory Management software do small-medium retailers use in San Francisco?
-
I'm thinking 'boutique' style stores that deal with clothing, shoes, accessories, home decor and such. Plenty of these around Mission (Valencia St.), Hayes Valley etc etc. Wondering if its fairly concetrated on 2-3 solutions or varies wildly?

Answer:
I'm a co-owner of the vintage store Vacation http://vacation-sf.com that just opened in SF a couple months ago. I'm also a software engineer so the question of a good, modern inventory management system was top of mind for me this year. Informally polling other friends at other small stores, they seemed to either be using Excel or some archaic software solution. I didn't bother getting many names of the systems because of the obvious unhappiness. There are some relatively new startups in the space like Vend and Stitch Labs but although a big step forward, we wanted a lot more. So I built the system that we are using now, Shopseen http://shopseen.com. It helps grow your business and its free for up to 100 products to sell, promote, and manage.

A handful of our clients at http://megaventory.com are situated in SFO. We operate globally - although most of our customers are from the US - and don't really know details about the specific market there is a general tendency of people in the area to be open to testing new platforms. So I'd expect a fairly broad concentration to a number of solutions (even if in some cases this may include a spreadsheet approach). Hope this is somewhat insightful.

Ron Schmelzer, Founder of Bizelo went through the same process as Adeel Ahmad with developing an inventory management system that can benefit small businesses. He ran an apparel company and was struggling to find an inventory management that worked for his small business. He couldn't find the perfect solution, so he developed his own and now is helping hundreds of small business merchants worldwide.
