What are the best publications/indicators for real estate and economy news?

It seems every day we are inundated with real estate and economic news, but it can be very confusing to try to bring meaning and big picture outlook. For example, I believe case-shiller statistics actually show statistics from three months ago. I do believe there are various indicators like consumer confidence, unemployment that are either forward looking or a picture of the past. What are the best indicators to track if you want to see where real estate prices and/or the economy is going? Are there any websites that don't sensationalize every news story and graph all the indicators and provide simple definitions of the usefulness of that indicator and a general idea of where things are heading?
