Air Force Bal Bharati School, New Delhi: What are some of the best memories at AFBBS?

  • Answer:

Each day that I spent in AFBBS was wonderful :) The teachers, the seniors and the juniors and above all the certain pride that I think all of us had that we were in an Air Force School. There are just so many memories that I have associated with my school that if I start talking about it, one I will become teary eyed, and second, I don't think that I will be able to type that much. So here are a few things that I would really like to highlight: 1. Being in AFBBS meant that we were exposed to every possible region of India. From east, west, north , south.. we were always interacting with Air force kids from all over the Country. One thing that atleast I learnt was, how to make friends really quickly and how to make someone new feel more comfortable. Especially since a lot of Air Force kids would move on after a year or two. 2. Encouragement: Oh Gosh, I think, never ever have I seen any teacher speak ill about a student. They would always find something positive and push you to that. Till a really long time, I was not very fluent in English, and writing essays was something that I hated. In Class 5, we were made to write an essay on "Rainy Day", and even though it was in broken English and an absolute disaster, my teacher pointed out something about making boats from paper that I had written and no one else had and praised me for that. And then later on, the same teacher got me hooked to novels (till that time I would just read fairy-tales). 3. Then there was this Head Mistress, Mrs. Kohli who was retiring, and she sent a small note to everyone in the Junior School and treated all of us to a cold drink and something else too. I was in Class II that time, and I still have that note. (It was a printed message). 4. The fun and the absolute ruckus when we used to participate in our annual days and sports days. We were all made to do traffic drills one sports day, and oh GOD, the practices were excruciating. But we were all given these hawaldar wala caps and whistles. I still have mine :) 5. The excursions and the picnics: Even though most of the picnics culminated at the Lodhi Garden, it is thanks to those that I have seen the Zoo, the Planetarium, and various other spots in Delhi. In Class II , we were all made to write a letter and taken to the post office so that we could learn how to post a letter (I don't think my kids, whenever I have them that is, will have that experience) and posted the letters to our parents. I had written mine to my dad. And yeah, that too is there. In Class 7, the School organized a 10 day long adventure camp, and voila, I got permission, because the activities involved were such that my Dad said he would  never let us do those. We went rafting and skiing. We had an absolute blast. And, whilst there, a big earthquake also came, and a chopper came to check on us, that was something. And, I can go on and on and on about the memories, the friends, the teachers that have given me so much and made me the person that I am today. And, whilst I changed my school after Class 10, I have always said and maintained that I am a baffian.
