Which engineering college is the best for foreign students?

Which Indian engineering college is the best in terms of Computer Science placements for M-Tech students?

  • I am looking for a detailed answer comparing placement statistics of various IITs/IISc/IIIT-H and other top colleges.

  • Answer:

In my opinion, if you wanna opt for masters (M.Tech. in CSE)in India (unless you can afford one from a good university abroad), rule of thumb would be (for computer science), (For placements, good education and MBA/PhD abroad, I would strongly recommend to seek admission in following order) 1) 5 Old IITs (B,D,M,K,Kgp) - No need to say anything about these institutes 2) BITS/ IIIT-H BITS is older and funded by one of the biggest industrial families in India. One of the oldest and well established engineering colleges and Alumni reach compared to that of IITs and Top NITs. Pros : Apart from Brand and alumni network, good infra, better college life Cons : Never been here, so no comments about cons   IIIT-H is relatively young (almost as young/old as IIT-G and the time when IIT-R aquired IIT status). They say that it's top choice for undergrads and grads (unless you can afford MS from abroad) for CSE after old IITs Pros : Best Faculty, Coding Culture, intensive coursework for MTech, can opt for research and papers, Good Placements Cons : Lacks coveted status of IITs/BITS, Lacks non academic infrastructure like sports facilities and auditorium, Lacks overall experience of college life 3) NIT W/K/T/C -- Good 4) IIT-BHU / IIT-G/ IIT-R -- Good for non CS MTechs, can't be so sure about CSE If you are looking for career in research the list would be as follows, 1) IISc 2) ISI Kolkata, TIFR, CMI 3) 5 Old IITs (B,D,M,K,Kgp) 4) IIIT-H (opt for MS by Research not for MTech if you wanna research)

All the IITs offer the same opportunities to M.Tech. and B.Tech students, and it is sole discretion of recruiter whether or not you satisfy their criteria. You would be competing with every other IITian (other B.E + M.E.) students for the same job. Have a look at questions for further details: . Also the newer IITs might not be good enough for masters program. Sinced you asked to answer me I would like to tell you that I cannot provide any further insight or exact numbers from various IITs/IISc placement records because I don't have them. And one more thing that is important is no other institute is worth your time and effort. If you want to do masters from India you should definitely do it from some IIT/IISc.

Placements of Computer Science students at IISc, Bangalore: Placement session 2013-14 has been a huge success for Computer Science students at IISc, Bangalore. Students who aspire to do  high quality R & D in industry, had umpteen opportunities to appear for  organizations such as IBM India Research Lab, Xerox Research Center India  and several other research labs. While major global companies like Microsoft, Amazon, EBay, NVidia etc. visited the campus and recruited  a large number of students, exciting startups like Enlightiks visited  the campus  and offered excellent job profiles as well as attractive  renumeration packages. Financial firms like Goldman Sachs, American  Express etc. also showed intense interest in IISc and recruited a good  number of students with attractive packages. Overall students had opportunities to appear for various companies working in all major areas of Computer Science. All the students from  computer science departments interested in placements have received offers  and are quite excited about the jobs they have secured.

Ranking is subjective, varies from person to person. To get an overall idea, read from many sources. Here is mine. IISc Bangalore Old IITs IIIT Hyderabad IIIT Delhi IIIT Bangalore New IITs ISI Kolkata NIT Warangal NIT Trichy NIT Surathkal NSIT DTU One easy and reliable way to measure an institute is, go through the faculty profile. The quality of an institute is heavily depends on people (Faculty & Students), not buildings. From what I have seen , here are my views- -old IITs -IIIT H , B , D ( only these big 3 ) -NITs (S, T, W) ( only these big 3) are best choices ( also there is not much diff between them except best IITs) IISc bangalore is best for research but almost every placement oriented guy opts for IITB. If you are getting new IITs and others like best NITs or IIITs  said above , don't think just go for the latter. new IITs are at present struggling with competitive placements and acads. It would take almost a decade for them to become top giants. So you just get a tag now nothing else. BITS Pilani is cool but then people have suggested on forums to go for IIIT B compared to BITS as Mtech at IIITB is one of the best in terms of placements , acads and better than BITS IIIT D is much easily available if you scored good at GATE and is a good option. Recent placement stats(2013) are very encouraging. IIIT A looks nice but at present its acads and placements for MTechs are at backstep.
