What can I do with an Associates degree in accounting?

Would there be any benefit in earning an associates degree in accounting and then earning a bachelors in economics?

  • I am about to earn an associates in accounting because I was untreated for mental illness and I wanted something that would get me a job I could live on. However, now that I am functioning and doing well, I'm about to finish my associates and the plan was that if I was doing better by the time I graduated, I'd go for an accounting degree at a university or, otherwise, just be a bookkeeper. I'm doing a lot better than I thought, but my passion always was the social sciences. They just didn't really provide jobs. So now I'm wondering if my associates is still worth something and what I can do with it. So I'd like to get a Bachelors of Science in Economics, but since I'm a bit older, I don't really want to waste a lot of time in college and go for an economics degree if it's not going to be a big benefit. So my question is: what is an associates in accounting good for if you're not gonna be an accountant?

  • Answer:

Not if that's all you do. Better the other way around and most accounting careers are looking to masters degrees now to meet CPA requirements.
