How do you plan a family reunion?

I plan on driving from Norfolk, VA to Atlanta in my 1996 Toyota Avalon for a family reunion. How many times will I have to fill up one way?

  • Answer:

This how you calculate it. Determine how many miles you'll be driving. - Norfolk to Atlanta is 565 miles one way. Determine the Miles Per Gallon that your car averages. - According to government sources your car averages 25 MPG. Determine how many gallons your gas tank holds. - According to sources on the Internet your car holds 18 gallons of gas. Based on this data you do the simple math to determine how far you can drive on one tank of gas. 18x25 = 450. You can drive 450 miles on 18 gallons (one tank) of gas. So in order to drive 565 miles you would need to use 22.6 gallons of gas. (565 div by 25 = 22.6) 22.6 gallons is 1.25 tanks full of gas.

It depends on your tires ,on the speed you will be driving ,on use of AC and on how many people you have in the car . 60-70 miles and hour with no aircondition and windows closed and good tires and only you in the car you should just about make it with one tank .

You are looking at around 565 miles. If you start with a full tank, maybe just once. I would not push it though. Get it twice to play it safe. Don't wait till you are bone dry.
