What is a "Cached image"?

What are the best tools/methods for finding the source of a specific stock image?

  • I have a client who found a specific stock image (via Google Image Search, that part's important) that they want to use. It's definitely a stock image: TinEye + reverse image searches reveal that it's been used all over the place, but I can't determine where the image was sourced for purchase and attribution. I've recommended replacements, but no other image will do, unfortunately. I know, right? Anyway, are there any tools or methods I should be using to find the source of the image?

  • Answer:

I use a Google Chrome plugin called "The Microstock Photo Power Search Tool". You can get it at the Chrome web store. Basically a keyword search. You can also use an app called Tineye. http://www.tineye.com This one is my favorite since you can actual upload an image (screen shot) and it will search the web looking for every location it is used. Pretty handy for stock contributors like myself who want to make sure they are not getting ripped off.
