Is testing through secondary testing app white box testing?

Is guerilla usability testing viable for a B2B web app?

  • We want to get some usability testing done as cheaply as possible (lean startup). It is a web app that's designed for project teams in a business as well as their clients. I've read a lot about guerilla usability testing with things like Silverback, but nobody ever mentions if you should only do it with B2C products. Would it still be beneficial to test random people for the client side of things as well as just general interface ease-of-use or should we be focusing on only testing professional project managers? We would obviously try to reach both, but to target PMs specifically in public is a way bigger challenge. Any thoughts on the subject would be great. Thanks!

What are the roles and technical / business backgrounds of your customer's clients?  Professional project managers are often versed in a variety of tools, and are more likely to overcome usability and complexity hurdles. If their clients are less savvy, you might want to focus on general usability focusing on those personas (e.g. marketing assistants, business stakeholders, etc.) Your goal should be to address the most blaring usability issues first so that your audience can give you straightforward feedback on your product without getting hung up on general UI/UX. My advice is to read: Krug, Steve (2011-12-14). Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability (Kindle Location 2224). Pearson Education (US). Kindle Edition. ... and just do it yourself for $0. You should have direct contact with your target audience already, and a quick usability test shouldn't be that much of a hassle. So, I'd suggest doing both starting with general usability, and then engaging some of your target users.

You just need the audience to be a B2B one, and you're all set. https://usabilityhub.com has thousands of community users working on B2B products who are happy to test your usability. The platform gives them credits to administer their own tests, so you can run these free or very cheaply (lean lean lean) on-demand.

You could use something inexpensive like userbob dot com to test general usability.   Then use something more expensive like usertesting dot com to test with someone who is closer to your target user.
