How do I delete my Go Mobile device?

Should RT linux be used in this embedded device?

  • I am trying to build a device that will help me to send data from one usb flash drive to another without using a PC. I will be using an ARM Cortex A8 dev board with 2*USB 2.0 host support. I am planning to use ubuntu arm in my device. I have seen OSs on a friendly ARM. After booting they go to a regluar desktop like in a PC/Laptop. I am not looking for a desktop environment in my device. I want the device to start and display a desktop. It should start and display my GUI application(with I am planning to build using GTK+--pygtk) with message saying "Insert source and destination pen drives". After both the pen drives are inserted, it must open up a screen that displays the data in both the usb flash drives. It should allow me to transfer data between them and also delete some pre-loaded data if there isn't enough space. I was unsure which OS will allow me to do this. Will I have to use RT linux(as RTOSs execute the application program first)? Also, please tell me if you feel my approach is correct. You are most welcome to suggest me another one.

  • Answer:

RT Linux is the right choice. It is designed for use cases like these. But do sufficient research to ensure it satisfies your requirements end to end, which I think it should undoubtedly.
