I am making a documentary about the Middle East this summer. What important/interesting questions should I explore?

Where will you be traveling and who is your intended audience for this documentary?  What is your impetuous for making this film?  I would recommend living in the Middle East for a few months and getting to know its peoples and cultures before settling on a hook or idea.  Amman, Jordan is a good city to be based out of and has a bit of everything, I lived there for 6-months after graduating college.  I would also recommend learning as much Arabic as you can, as it would be a bit silly to do a documentary on Latin America without knowing any Spanish.  There are many different contemporary topics to talk about, but there is no substitute from being there and knowing it firsthand.  Goodluck.

The cultural differences between the Middle East and the West in matters related to the perception of democracy (is it a positive or negative concept) How do Arabs vs the West define the Middle East? (Is Iran, Turkey, and Israel part of it?) Do Arabs differentiate between Western government policies and the population? Is Westernization considered a positive or a negative concept?
