How do you use wildcards in search?

Is there a search engine that can also do a domain search with wildcards?

  • I'm looking for a traditional search engine (not a domain search engine like that which GoDaddy has), that enables me to look for keywords, negative works, etc. but ALSO can search for a domain name using wildcards. Use case: searching for a startup or website you know exists but in which you can't recall the name.  Startups these days are notoriously bad about discounting SEO, getting bad advice that SEO doesn't result in success; because, that is indeed true but that doesn't mean "don't do it" as not thinking about how your site indexes in search engines usually means it won't when people turn to Google to find you. There are countless startups I've run across and can never again find because a simple search for the obvious keywords related to their business fails to turn them up. In cases where one can remember a part of their domain name, how can that be used in search engines? Is there any search engine that works for a search like this: keyword -keyword "key phrase" *known*.com

  • Answer:

http://Justdropped.com searches in the way you described, but it searches for domains which have only just recently expired.
