Which potential job should I pursue?

I can pursue a core engineering job at Samsung Engineering (with best in class salary) in Saudi Arabia, or pursue a master's in fashion technology from NIFT. Which would be the best opportunity to pursue?

  • I have a family business background in textiles.

  • Answer:

The options stated are very diverse and hence, they lead me to believe you are at quite a crossroad in your life. Ideally, I would like to have more information about your interests, previous exploits and goals/aspirations in order to give an answer- In the absence of this, I am simply going to say the following generic things: Pursue what inspires you; gives you goosebumps; what you are passionate about! Ask yourself- Who do you idolize? Who do you look upto? What kind of life do you want to be living- professionally and personally. Which of these options is likely to take towards this goal. To me- Career options are always about finding an ideal fit between your personality traits/behavior patterns and what possible career options demand of you- If there is an overlap- You will tend to succeed and be happy (achieve your goals). I realize I didn't give you a Boolean answer; However in the absence of critical information- This was the best that I could do! Hope this helps! Cheers and All the best!

Go for the job in Samsung. Assuming you have completed your undergrad, this means that you have little to no knowledge of the way the real world works and it is particularly pointless to jump into doing an extra degree just because of the same. When you get some real life exposure to how things work then you will really understand what and how to do things after that. And who knows you can get into a much better design school than NIFT. Aside : How did you get into Samsung Saudi Arabia?

Thanks for the A2A, but before you read my answer, you should know I'm a 21-yr-old. So here goes, I guess It actually depends on where your interests lie. 1. If you have want to be independent and textile industry doesn't interest you, then the job is the best idea. 2. I have a cousin (not too close) who studied at NIFT. It's pretty costly, the fashion designer course. And so is the expenditure the lifestyle demands. Imagine- all the material things you have to buy to make people think you take fashion seriously. So if you are already financially stable, and can afford that living, AND you want to continue in this family business I'd say NIFT is the best thing. You never know what crazy idea you might come up with. The textile industry might help you, because after attaining your fashion degree(?) and already having a textile industry, you've climbed half the ladder already. You could turn it into something big. Like Levi Strauss even. But it's what interests you. Good luck :-)
