How to design a cable?

Interior Design: How can I attractively secure a long cable to the floor in my house?

  • I'm running a long TV cable across multiple rooms in my house. How can I attach it to the floor in a way that's attractive and doesn't damage my carpet?

  • Answer:

There is no attractive way to accomplish this. The safest and most attractive solution would be to run the cable through the walls instead. Is that impossible for some reason?

Hey Joel, first of all, you need to make sure your wire is extra, extra long -- if not, swap it out for a yet longer wire. Your goal is to run the wire along your baseboards in every room. This will look best if you have white wires and white baseboards (or a white wall). Snake the wires around the edges of the room, and secure them in place with clips like this. They just screw into the baseboard. You can get them at any hardware store. Don't worry, the screw isn't actually that big -- it will leave a hole that is barely noticable. This image below is not ideal -- you want the wire to be flush with the wall. That's why you need those clips. The slightly more involved solution is to get hollow baseboard-like connectors, which you could affix to the bottom of your walls. This works best if you do not have baseboards already. This is what it looks like on the inside: You can find a variety of these wire runners on Amazon or at the hardware store. This is the ultra involved version, but totally doable if you're handy. http://sewelldirect.com/articles/hide-speaker-wire-with-sewell-ghost-wire.aspx Good luck! This is an annoying problem to have, but the clips are a good fix and it really won't look bad as long as you keep the wire flush against the floor and wall or baseboard.

I would suggest, no matter how much effort or time is invovled, that you should clip it to the flor, or even better, to the roof, in one side, just where the roof meets the wall. Then you could paint it. This cable should be rounding all the rooms until it find its way to the roof. Of course you want to do it in the shorter way, but you don't want to cross it in diagonal, even though is the shortest path. Maybe you shouldn't do it through the flor, since it could be damaged by kids, dogs or other furniture if you're moving it around. And yes, as said, the best way is to do it through the wall. If you don't live in an appartment, in fact I would suggest that you should do it through a PVC tube, all around  the house. There are more "aesthethic" solutions to the standard "cream color" PVC. This would protect the interior of your house, and, in case you need to cross another cable or give maintainance it would be easy without damaging the interior. If you need any further help, send me a message. EDIT: The best answer is what said.

Use cable tacks along the ceiling or the floor. If you adopt this approach, it's best to lay down the cable before you put in the furniture, so you can lay the cable neatly along the floor or the ceiling. Be sure to buy the correct type of cable tack for each of your cords--flat cable tacks, for example, will pinch and damage round cords. Hide cables under the carpet, it's best to do this before you put any furniture down. The easiest way to hide cables under the carpet is to use a steel fish tape tool to pull the cable from one side of the room (where your entertainment center is set up) to the other (where your cable emerges from the carpet to connect to the electrical outlet).@http://www.mgprojekt.com.pl
