How do people take care of visa when they travel by land in bike or something?
-
I am inspired by mini retirement ideas from this video. http://mashable.com/2014/05/12/3-year-selfie/#:eyJzIjoiZiIsImkiOiJfeXd3ZzhhcXhxM292NWd1NSJ9 How to take care of visa and various things while doing such a journey? Do they even get a visa? How much money is needed?

Answer:
Generally with exceptions you can buy it while crossing the border. The best way to plan this element is to buy one of "Lonely Planet" guides which have a "visa" and "getting there and away" sections per country. Look for "... on shoestring" editions like this one for Asia : http://shop.lonelyplanet.com/asia/southeast-asia-on-a-shoestring-travel-guide-16/ There you will find all prices, most common land border crossings.. also information if it is possible to cross due to political situation or some other circumstances like occasional flooding etc. The data inside Lonely Planet guides is updated by travelers on yearly basis in most cases. Some countries are more strict with visas and you should apply for visa through embassy (either in your home country or the country you are currently visiting). If you want to apply for visa at embassy you could go to companies which provide a service of helping you to get a visa (since it can take a while or there is no english translation for visa papers or whatever). In poorer countries this might be the only reasonable way to do it due to bribes and "knowing" where to go to get it fast. Such service should cost ~10$-20$ and should be easily accessible. Some countries are extraoridinary also with their approach to visas. Example, Russia issues visas per day (not per month) and if you are more than 24h in a city you should register your stay at local police station. When you are leaving the country you will need to present the papers. I seen people passing with no papers but in some cases it produces perfect situation for officers to try to get a hefty bribe from you. hope that was helpful and good luck

This is as per my knowledge. Criteria may change depending upon your Nationality and the country you visiting. You need to apply for visa; along with normal documents like passport, hotel confirmation etc you need to submit self written covering letter stating that you will be traveling on bike / car and all the expenses will be borne by you. You may have to show proof of having sufficient funds... You can get visa fees on particular country's website for visa and rest details also. They always mention contact number. So you can call and get more details because criteria differ from country to country. All the best and have fun.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
