What is the daily routine for computer software engineers?

Is computer science engineering in India largely responsible for creating shallow software engineers than loaded system engineers?

• There was a point in time when engineers had to take tough courses in maths,physics,material sciences,electronics and computers to understand the overall of how a system works. These guys would then go ahead and work with companies that were either in the business of designing an overall system for commercial segment or designing a system to be used internally.These guys happened to know everything with respect to overall system design be it hardware,software or the physics and maths associated with designing these systems.From that period to where we are now I see a huge paradigm shift in terms of systems engineering diluting to information technology,computer science,electronics and instrumentation etc.I have not even counted the innumerable courses endorsed and run by universities across the country that teach subsets of computer science to students and never try making them think over a specific problem set. In fact more than half of India is making it's bread and butter over partial knowledge about some software tools they learnt either in a corporate set up or from a ailing academic setup and using the features provided by the language designers and talking about optimization techniques without knowing any innate details about how the hardware responds to the piece of code that drives it. It's funny how a certain Steven Wozniak could design an entire computer system on his own and the kind of engineers we have who'd have barely written close to 800 lines of code in a career spanning 15 years the standard age when software engineers start commanding respect of the Indian community boasting about their technical achievements which if we talk in retrospect are nothing.
