How can I make a timeline look good aesthetically?

How can I best control my Facebook Timeline privacy?

  • Are the new timelines inherently public?  I've tried blocking my timeline from an "extremely limited view" group I had, that couldn't see my wall  (these would be adults, bosses, family, etc.) Now, they can see the posts on my timeline.  Is there anyway to change this? Also, is there any way to limit the visibility of a year?  For example, could I just make the most recent year available on my profile, instead of going through all my posts one by one? Thanks for your help.  I like the look but not all this additional privacy stuff I have to take care of.

  • Answer:

Even after you enable Timeline, all your content has the same privacy it used to have. Nothing is made public. If you want to lock down or open up some posts you've made in the past, just click "Activity Log" on your Timeline and you can change the privacy of any post from there. Note that even before Timeline, someone who was very patient could just click "Load More…" a few hundred times on your profile to see public or friends-only content you'd posted in the past. There isn't a way to change privacy by time range currently.

You can protect your own privacy by using your privacy settings, however, you can't control what others do.  For instance, if you are tagged in a photo on a friend's Facebook page, everyone who is on that friend's friends list can see it and see where  you were and when you were there (http://blog.privacypartners.com/2012/02/privacy-and-facebooks-timeline/ .) Until everyone in your circle understands how important privacy is, there is only so much you can do.

Who can see my stuff? Use this option to set the general audience for your posts. For  example, if you set up your future posts to be visible only to your  friends, this means that users who are not your friends will not be able  to see your content. If you happen to want to override these settings  for a certain post only, you can use a dropdown menu within each post.  Here you can choose to share the post with a specific audience or with a  specific list. Even though you have limited your audience on Facebook, some things on your timeline remain visible to anyone. Name Profile photo – The current profile photo is always public by  default, and once you change it, the old profile photo will again be  visible according to your general settings. Cover photo – Cover photos are always public. Anyone can like or share them. Gender Username and User ID Groups you are a member of Your comments on someone else’s posts or images are also public or  visible according to the settings of the person who have published the  content in question. Since content published by pages is also public,  any time you write a post or comment on a page, that post or a comment  will be public as well. The information you share via Facebook-integrated games, applications and websites are also public. Read the full article here: http://www.hisocial.com/blog/en/facebook-privacy/
