How do you make new candles out of old candles?

Recycling: What all steps should I do to do to make new candles from old candle?

  • After I burn a candle, there is a lot of wax.  What all steps should I do to make a candle from that wax?

  • Answer:

get a jar, tie a cotton string longer than the height of that jar to a stick longer than the width of the jar's mouth. Lay the stick across the jar's mouth so that the string hangs to the bottom of the jar. fill the jar with broken pieces of wax from your old candles. put the jar in the oven. try 150-200 degrees F. Wood burns at 451 degrees F. You don't want the cotton string to burn. When the wax melts you can add more so that the jar ends up full. when all the wax is melted let it cool and cut the string off just above the top of the wax. you're done.

Collect all the left over wax and melt it in a double boiler. Double boiler is basically a pan of water on the gas/ induction and another bowl of wax over it(make sure the bowl of wax never touches the surface of the pan). If you have different coloured wax then you can melt them separately. You could also put wax crayons to make new colours. Now, take a mould. You could either buy moulds or take jars, shot glasses etc etc. Now put the candle wick in the mould and slowly pour the wax. If you got different coloured wax, you can put it in layers. Let the wax cool down for a fee hours. There, you have your candle ready!
