What's preventing enterprise-level wifi solutions from reaching the consumer market?

  • My IT friends have told me the technology for municipal- and business-level wifi is completely different than consumer-level solutions. Why?

    Business wi-fi is too complex for home user needs. Complexity adds  costs. Nobody wants to pay more for features they don't use. Example: User/password login scheme, multiple encryption system, hardware key token (a usb stick with a code that allows you to access the network), more repeater-friendly...

As far as security is concerned they are pretty much available to normal user Just as Razwan Baba said its complex Like for example if u ever configured a WiFi router yourself you would have noticed in the security section there are multiple technologies available The latest(and currently best ) being WPA2 Which further has two divisions Personal which you were actually using and enterprise which is used by those its meant for (not that I haven't configured my router for enterprise). So basically its available but too complicated for average user And as far as speeds are concerned there definitely are certain restrictions Like for my country the max bandwidth available to a normal user is 8Mbps though its greater than that for businesses...but may not be true for all countries
