Answer:
Define "monotonous". If by that you mean the job description (which needs to have a certain set of repetitive tasks which you perform), then all jobs are monotonous. Even the exciting consulting where the clients come with certain problems and which need to be solved again and again: problems are different but the path to solution follows the same method (identify the problem, go through outcomes, choose the most efficient solution). If by monotonous you mean potential for learning, you will become a perpetual student, which in turn requires funds to continue. Apparently this is not an option. If you are seeking a creative outlet for your energy and skills, you would have to invent something (something that others would want to spend money on) in order to get paid. Keep in mind that it will require determination (and yes, monotonous repetition until the desired prototype works and is able to be produced at the acceptable price level) but you seem to be lacking patience to get there. It could be months or it could be years. Are you ready for that? You did not state what other skills do you have - aside from your degree. I have a degree in Accounting and I have a degree in Programming and Systems Design. Yet I work in Compliance area - which has no direct links to either degree. Unless you are a self-taught and brilliant designer (graphic, interior) or have some secret talent which you developed over the decades of your life, you have nothing to offer, so don't expect someone to pay you money for nothing. The issue is that the handsomely paid jobs such as an Architect or Innovator/Inventor, come without any pay guarantee: one day you will be awash with money by designing a 5-mile bridge or the next skyscraper, the next paycheck can be years away until the next project comes along (and you are chosen by the developer). Can you handle this? Another problem - a bigger one - is the statement about today's world. A job of a blacksmith was great back in 1800s until automobiles were invented and horse-drawn carriages (main business demanding horseshoes and skills of blacksmiths) were gone. The whole industry vanished practically overnight. You can certainly find a position which is creative but it will take time and a lot of research (a creative person like yourself can't expect that other Quorans will do the research for you, can you?), and be sure that it will take a lot of digging: people who have non-monotonous jobs don't want any competition from you. The question is whether this job will be stable (even if well-paid) and whether this job will be there tomorrow when the technology changes and the product/service becomes obsolete.

You have two distinct but connecting issues. You do not want monotonous and you want handsome salary. But when you are a Mechanical Engineer you should not be in a monotonous job. May be you are young and fresh and so you have been given a monotonous job. You finish you monotonous fast an ask your manager some other assignment? You stay after 5.30 and look around and ask permission to do some others jobs or get to know about them and spend 2 / 3 hours there. Being young and fresh blood you really feel like that but wait. wait till you are given some responsibility and then your hair will lose its sheen and you start worried about job and etc., Life gives you some luxuries for lucky people you better enjoy them when it was given on a platter. Instead of complaining.
