How you ended up doing something (apparently not/less important at that moment) when instead of that, you had to do something important (or say studies)? Any incident you remember?

Edit: Thanks for helping me out with the title Rahul Agrawal. NOTE: I can't exactly frame the question. But I guess you have got the idea, what I meant. There must have been times when you had to do something urgent or necessary but instead of doing that you ended up with something else. For eg: when you have to go to some class, instead of that, you ended up watching 'Shawshank Redemption (lets say). Above is just an example with my case! :)

Answer:
Well, technically, you are right. The question could have been asked in a different way to encompass a more general set of situations involving what has to be done and what one likes to do, instead. But hey, who's judging? Normally, human mind, or for that matter, any physical entity has a tendency to attain equilibrium. When you have something important to do, your mind naturally spends more time either thinking about it/ planning it/ worrying about it or any other activity, but essentially related to that important task. In the process, the mind loses the equilibrium state which is, to put it simply, "everything in proportion". So, by the time you actually arrive at the situation where you have to "accomplish" that important task and not just plan/think/worry about it, you are already in a tendency to find something, hell, anything in the world to be more attractive/distracting/compelling than the task at hand. Hence, the ignorance of the seemingly important task seems natural at that moment. This being one of my theories and quite heavier one too (to impress them upvoters you see!). On a lighter note, what actually happens is, let's face it - movie/book is much more fun than attending that "important lecture" in college. Isn't it an explanation enough? Edit: The answer was published before the many many edits, which now rendered the answer irrelevant and me, seemingly dumb :P
