What does a Petroleum engineer do?

What is it like to work at a multinational petroleum corporation as a chemical engineer?

  • I am currently an undergraduate chemical engineering student interested in learning more about what it is like to take on roles in major chemical engineering industries. Note: Answers to this question don't need to necessarily be limited to petroleum/oil corporations, though that is the primary premise of the query.

  • Answer:

The alternatives for a ChE might be to work at a start-up or other small company, or continue to graduate school. The advantages of working for a multinational are: Exposure to many senior engineers who can mentor and teach, accelerating your learning. Many internal and confidential resources that offer technical training, accelerating your learning. Access to experts in adjacent fields such as metallurgy, mechanical, and civil. Large corporate budgets for travel. I have visited Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, Korea, and Canada and I am only 10 years out of school
