I have always set goals and achieved them most of the time when I worked as a sales person in another company. I'm 2 Years into my own IT busines, have set goals and failed badly. Wondering, does it make sense to set goals in early years of startup?

    I believe that it is important to continuously set and work toward goals, as it is the best way for us to grow as people. We culturally have a real stigma associated with failing at our goals. With this we do ourselvesĀ  huge disservice, as this failure is an opportunity to learn so much about ourselves. When you are unable to reach a goal it is important to sit with it and analyze all of the different aspects of the goal and what went wrong. It could be that you didn't have a clear path to your goal, the goal may not align with your most important values, you may have had steps missing in your goal plan, you may have been unaware of how other goals you were working toward were undermining your progress toward the goal you feel you failed on, or there could be various other reasons you didn't get to where you thought you should be. That is okay, because now is the time to take a deep breath and figure out what you can learn about yourself from it and where you now want to go. Two tips for getting there are to write your goals down to form a plan and then journal about the process on a regular basis. Build the journaling into your life and don't let it get bumped by other things, as it is integral for keeping you on track and making achieving your goals a habit in your life.
