Only as a reaction to North Korea getting them if at all. It would be unwise for South Korea to get them unilaterally especially with all the talk about nuclear nonproliferation coming from the US. The PRC and NK would take that as hypocrisy on the part of the US. The great fear is that it might trigger an arms race sacking Japan and the PRC in.

Of what possible use would they be? It won't deter North Korea from doing whatever it wants to do. And it has no plans to conquer China or Japan.Besides, once the regime in the north collapses as it is fated to, it will inherit all the north’s nukes. Making their own is a waste of resources.

South Korea is still protected under our nuclear “umbrella” so unless they plan on breaking some of the current ties to the US, there is no need.
