Is it possible for him to have "accidentally" added me on Facebook?

Is Timor-Leste (East Timor) the only country missing from Facebook, and is there a way to have it added?

  • An independent UN recognised country for over 10 years, Timor-Leste has an estimated population at just over 1 million people, yet it is not included in the Facebook list of countries. Not a single city, including the capital Dili is included.  While the internet penetration rate is still low, the amount of people using Facebook from Timor-Leste is far higher than other included locations such as Vatican City or Falkland Islands. It is hard to determine exactly how many people currently use Facebook in Timor-Leste, as the lack of a selectable location has led to a split.  Some have mistakenly or otherwise selected Dili, Democratic Republic of Congo, others have selected Dili, Mali, (with a side effect that adverts are often displayed in French). A third group have simply left the country field blank. Is there a way to request that at least the country be included on Facebook, if not some of the larger cities / towns? I am aware that you can check-in to a location in this country based on GPS coordinates, but you will see that the address fields on EVERY SINGLE places pages for Timor-Leste is always incomplete or incorrect as the correct location cannot be selected from the Facebook database. A business in Timor-Leste is currently unable to create an advert aimed at its citizens. The country is not selectable, not even listed. I hope that Facebook can change this. If they can't do this for the sake of the citizens of Timor-Leste, maybe they can do it because the small amount of coding required would be minimal, compared to the potential future revenue of Timorese businesses paying for Facebook advertising.  For a company with shareholders, surely this is a no-brainer.

  • Answer:

This is clearly an oversight on Facebook's part and clearly no-one has mentioned it until now. I can't imagine any reason why Facebook would do this on purpose. Unfortunately Facebook is infamously hard to contact to report a bug like this. I suggest you do a Google search on how to contact facebook to report it. Facebook hasn't registered the http://facebook.tl domain either which is surprising.

Also Curacao a newborn country in the Caribbean with 150k inhabitants has been forgotten by Facebook, therefore blocking any advertising targeting options thereto.
