You can first decode them by using an Infrared Detector, and pointing your TV remote at it. IR Emitter-IR Decoder pairs are often sold together (e.g., at Sparkfun). Alternatively, you can rely on a lookup table of common codes. the best way is to record replicate the tv remote ir output . as the codes keep changing as per the tv brands .
